Sandy's April tips
When the soil dries up a bit April is a good month for planting trees, shrubs and hedging as it lets them make roots before flowering.
I don't like to plant when the soil is too wet - you 'tramp' soil in around the roots of your new shrub, but, when the soil dries it can be very hard so the roots cannot travel through .

Sandy's April tips
If you have a HEATED greenhouse then tomatoes, cucumber, peppers etc can be planted but if your greenhouse is un heated then wait till the end of April.
In our greenhouses at the moment the sowing, potting and pricking out is in full swing.
Basket plants will be available for sale from the 15th of the month onwards.

Sandy's April tips
After a cold wet March, things seem to be about a fortnight behind. Daffodils,Tree and shrub blossom etc. angry
This month I always think of as the start of the gardening year. Whenever the soil is workable
(fork it over in a drying wind in the morning to make good conditions for working in the afternoon)it is time to plant potatoes, onions, shallots, peas, beans, cabbage, cauli, lettuce, herbs etc.

Sandy's April tips
When planting up a new shrub border why not plant a few herbaceous plants in to the gaps to give you added colour until the shrubs close up .

On sale this from this month onwards we have a over 50 varieties of herbaceous old favourites like Astilbe's in Red, White and Pink.
Four varieties of Iris, plus Phlox, Geraniums, Rock plants etc are now available.

Why not try something different this year like Rheum Palmatum Tanguticum, the flowering rhubarb, or Eryngium Planum the Sea Holly, in stock now.

Sandy's April Tips
Plant up some Marigolds or Tagetas into 1 ltr pots and place them in-between your Tomato plants to keep whitefly away.

When planting Cabbage and other Brassicas place a 10cm stem of rhubarb into the side of the hole before planting.
This helps prevent club root.

Sandy's April Tips
Before you place your growbag in position place a layer of rotted compost or manure down first then, cut a slit about 10 cm long under where your plant will be.This will allows the roots to pass through and give you good growth and a good old fashioned flavour to your crops
